The Pursuit of God by Tozer

About the Book

Sometimes the voices that speak most clearly in the present are those that echo from the past. So it is in this Christian classic by the late pastor and evangelist A. W. Tozer.

Tozer brings the mystics to bear on modern spirituality, grieving the hustle and bustle and calling for a slow, steady gaze upon God. With prophetic vigor and flowing prose, he urges us to replace low thoughts of God with lofty ones, to quiet our lives so we can know God’s presence. He reminds us that life apart from God is really no life at all.

Tozer writes from his knees, a posture fit for presenting the character of God in all its demanding grandeur. "Arise, O sleeper!" is his word to us, and yet if we heed the call, we will see that to arise is not to stand, but to kneel before the God of heaven in humble contemplation. To pursue God is to know Him, and in our knowing be drawn in. (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

This is a challenging book to read. Anything by Tozer I have to read in small snippets. This isn't my favorite book by him but still very thought provoking. There was a section that I had to highlight that was my favorite part of this book. It says "promoting self under the guise of promoting Christ is currently so common as to excite little notice." (pg 51) Also, this chapter is talking about sins of the human spirit. "They are not something we do, they are something we are, and therein lies both their subtlety and their power. To be specific, the self-sins are self-righteousness, self-pity, self-confidence, self-sufficiency, self-admiration, self-love, and a host of others like them. They dwell too deep within us and are too much a part of our natures to come to our attention till the light of God is focused upon them. (pg 51)
I did like this book it just is a lot to digest and read.

Four Stars.

 My Thoughts

This devotional by A. W. Tozer is a great book for daily reading. Each day has a short but worthwhile devotional taken from the many things that Tozer has written. For me I can only read Tozer in short snippets so I thought this devotional would be perfect. I also like that the daily readings aren’t too short and have some depth. So many devotional books are fluffy two second reads that don’t require much thought and this one is not like that. While it is a shorter daily reading, each one I have read has prompted more in depth study which is great!

This is a great devotional and I highly recommend for Tozer fans.

Five Stars.

God's Pursuit of Man Review

About the Book
Salvation is from our side a choice, from the divine side [...] a conquest of the Most High God. - A. W. Tozer
With words like these, Tozer shakes the soul. He crumbles the lies we believe and calls us to the more sure way.
In these pages, Tozer says what it means to truly be saved. It is not merely to assent to Jesus and go on our same old way, but to be conquered by the Almighty God and invaded by his Spirit. A saved person is a transformed person. Let Tozer upend you in this moving prequel to The Pursuit of God. And being upended, may you be found standing upright in an upside-down world.

My Thoughts

To be honest, this was a difficult book to read. Mainly because there is so much jam packed in it that you read one page and need to take a break. I'm still thinking about things I read and a few I'm not sure that I agree with. I need to do some more studying on Tozer and read a bit more. I know this book is popular and a classic but it didn't draw me in as much as other books like it.

Mornings With Tozer Review

 About the Book

Grab your coffee, find your favorite chair, and begin your day with guidance from A. W. Tozer.

Many of these 365 devotional readings come from sermons Tozer preached close to his death in 1963, marking them with a deep concern for spiritual intimacy and true worship. He urges you to pursue God, confess sin, pray fervently, and seek the Spirit. Let this book be a garnish in your feast of God’s Word.

As you welcome the morning light and all the sights and sounds of the new day, let Mornings with Tozer awaken your heart.( Goodreads)

 My Thoughts
I had no idea that this book would be so well organized by date or so good for me to read. I haven’t read much Tozer though many people have talked about his writing. This book is a compacted daily devotional that lists each date, a verse, a short story, and a printed prayer. Many times I don’t always like the little prayers at the end, they seem too scripted in a conversation with the Lord. But it does give you a good idea on what you could be praying about.
Otherwise I love this book and was giddy to start reading it!! I like have a devotional book to go along with my regular Bible reading. This gives you applicable stories and a good Biblical background.

Highly recommend.
