Summer's List Review

23493662

About the Book
Life hadn’t been easy for Summer Snow. In acts of selflessness—caring for her ailing parents and running her grandmother’s bookstore—she had forfeited her youth and dreams for the needs of others. And the only tries she had at love… didn’t turn out. She had the bookstore, she had her beloved granny, but she was missing something—or someone.

Opportunity strikes when Granny sends Summer on an unexpected adventure with one Martin Langtree, a kind but gangly young man from Summer’s past. A childhood friendship is rekindled, a romance is sparked, and mysteries are solved in one magical Texas summer. Will Summer strike out on love again, or will things finally go her way'

With lovable characters and surprising twists, Summer’s List is a simple delight.

 My Thoughts

The first part of this book intrigued me and I thought the writing style unique. After a few chapters my interest started to wear off. I wish I could say otherwise but I just couldn't get completely into the story line. I like Summer's character I just didn't like the overall plot. It was an okay read but just not my favorite.

Three stars.

17876892

 About the Book
What happens when the matchmaker finds a match for herself?Charlotte Rose Hill has been serving up country delicacies, uniquely blended teas, and matchmaking advice for her quirky but beloved customers for more than 10 years. But for her, marriage seems like an elusive butterfly, always out of reach. At 18, Charlotte fell in love with a young man, Sam Wilder, but his family convinced her to walk away from their relationship. She did, and then became engaged to another man, who later died before they were married. Now, more than a decade later, Charlotte finds that she still has feelings for her first love. Initially thrilled to learn that Sam has come home to Middlebury, Texas, Charlotte is devastated to learn that he’s brought someone with him: his fiancée. But all is not lost when the townsfolk decide to get involved. Will Charlotte and Sam find their way back to each other?(Goodreads)

 My Review
Anita Higman is a great author, I enjoy how she writes in a very visual way. She makes the reader feel like they are there. This book started off good, I love that Charlotte makes her own tea for her tea room. The community of Middlebury is fun, I liked this setting. The only thing about this story is it didn't completely capture my attention. It dragged on for me in the middle, the ending is rather predictable, so it took a lot for me to finish the book. Perhaps this book is just a tad too wordy but the meaning behind the main characters story is great. If you are in the mood for a slower easy going tea read you will like this.

 About the Book
Lily Winter's wings are folded so tightly around her daughter that when empty nest arrives, she feels she can no longer fly. But Lily's lonely, widowed life changes in a heartbeat when she goes to visit a woman who is almost a stranger to her-a woman who also happens to be her mother. During their fiery reunion, her mother reveals a dark family secret that she'd been hiding for decades-Lily has an identical twin sister who was put up for adoption when they were just babies.

Without looking back, Lily-with her fear of flying-boards a jumbo jet and embarks on a quest to find her sister which leads half way around the world to Melbourne, Australia. Befriended by imprudent Ausie, he might prove to be the key to finding her sister. But her journey becomes a circle that leads her back home to attempt a family reunion and to find the one dream she no longer imagined possible-the chance to fall in love again.(Goodreads)

My Review

Winter in Full Bloom by Anita Higman is the first book I have read by this author. At the start of the book I was very interested into how the rest of the story was going to end up. I love how the author starts the book with on the airplane and spins her story. This book hit home in a way because of the family that is introduced. Lily Winter goes to Australia to meet a sister she never knew existed. I just met my sisters I had never met so it was fun to read this part of the story. Once in Australia she meets a man who is full of surprises and discovers her family's past.
I really enjoyed the first part of the book more so than the second half. Higman did throw in some curve balls I was not expecting to make the story unpredictable.
While this is not my favorite, it is a fun contemporary fiction read with strong characters.
Also, you have to love the cover, it's beautiful!
