With Love, Wherever You Are Review

About the Book

Everyone knows that war romances never last. . . .
Helen Eberhart always had to fight for what she wanted. Survival in a family of thirteen gave her the grit to push through nurse’s training and support herself. But after the attack on Pearl Harbor, she can’t stand catering to the pampered patients on Chicago’s North Shore. Enlisting as an Army nurse, Helen is transferred to a military hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. There she comes face-to-face with the waves of broken bodies of the wounded soldiers, many no older than her beloved brothers.

Frank Daley wasn’t trying to be a hero. He’d only enlisted to finish medical school, confident that the war would be over before his deferment ran out. Life just worked out for him that way. But Lieutenant Frank R. Daley, MD, is sent straight from his graduation to boot camp in Battle Creek as his last stop before a battlefield hospital in Europe. And none of his training prepares him for the chance encounter with the spirited nurse who steals his heart.

After a whirlwind romance and courthouse wedding, Helen and Frank are sent to the front lines of Europe with only letters to connect them for months at a time. Surrounded by danger and desperately wounded patients, they soon find that only the war seems real—and their marriage more and more like a distant dream. If they make it through the war, will their marriage survive? (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

I always love stories about real life happenings. This book was created from a trunk of letters that Dandi Daley Mackall read through after her parents passed. How neat to create the lives of your parents from old stories and letters! This book is fiction but there are letters included and it really wraps the whole story up nicely. You are taken to the middle of war after Pearl Harbor and you get to see two different sides on what all goes on. I thought this was a well written book. At times it was a bit slow for me, but I still enjoyed it!

Four stars.

The Legend of the Easter Robin Kids Review

26263611

About the Book
This newly illustrated edition of The Legend of the Easter Robin renews the wonder and charm of the original and timeless tale written by Dandi Daley Mackall. With new vibrant artwork from New York Times bestselling illustrator, Richard Cowdrey, this holiday classic is brought to life for a new generation. The Legend of the Easter Robin tells the story of Tressa, whose grandmother reveals to her the story of a small robin who saw Jesus struggling and soared to help him. This Easter tale reminds Christians everywhere how much Jesus sacrificed for us and how much he loves us. (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

Oh the illustrations in this kids book are beautiful!! While reading this book, I liked the story, but I wasn't so sure that I liked how it told kids a robin got it's red breast by pulling a thorn out of Jesus' crown of thorns. So I kept reading and I enjoyed the fun story about the eggs. I was still confused until I got to the last page and found out that the entire story is an old Pennsylvania Dutch tale and that they were the first to introduce coloring Easter eggs.

So while this is a cute tale, it certainly doesn't follow the Bible so I think it is up to the adult or parent on what they want to read to their kids.

Four stars.

Book Description

In The Legend of St. Nicholas, the new artwork, created by Marley and Me illustrator, Richard Cowdrey, captivates audiences and tells the story of a young man named Nicholas, who was moved by the plight of the poor and needy. Nicholas spent his life secretly helping the poor all over the world, giving gifts on Christmas Eve to remind people of the greatest Gift of all, Jesus Christ. This gentle Christmas book introduces the original St. Nicholas and offers inspiration for readers to become cheerful givers themselves. The final pages in the book include fun Father Christmas traditions in other lands.
About the Author

About the Illustrator
Richard Cowdrey’s favorite things to draw and paint are the things that reflect the awesomeness of God and His creation. From vast landscapes to the littlest bug on a leaf, Richard marvels at the beauty in the details. Richard's bestselling children's books include Bad Dog, Marley and A Very Marley Christmas. My Review

This is a fun Christmas book that tells the story of St. Nicholas, a young man who wanted to give. The book is mainly about a little boy who goes shopping with his dad (his dad just left him at the store to wander on his own which I didn't really appreciate) and discovers Santa telling the story of St. Nicholas. It's a great example on how great it is to give to others in need and a good lesson for kids.
The illustrations are beautifully done and I can't wait to share this book with the little ones in my life! I love giving and I hope they grow up to understand the importance of giving to others.

About the Book

Fourth-grader Ellie James has a great imagination. She spends a lot of time daydreaming of owning a black stallion show horse and winning trophies in the horse show. But when the answer to all her dreams and prayers gallops into her life, will Ellie be able to recognize it? Join Ellie and her quirky family in their exciting, horse-loving adventures.(Goodreads)

 My Review

So this is the first book in this series, and I had already read the last book (oops, I read them as they come in from the library). In this book Ellie is daydreaming in class about horses and then she thinks she really does see a horse outside the window! No one believes her until later when a few things come into play. This book is all about Ellie discovering and taking care of her Pinto. These are the main two characters in the book so it was nice to read about how everything came about.
Ellie's faith is fun to read because she is so young and yet she still seems to have a relationship with God. Her family is hilarious and these books are just plain good.

Highly recommend for horse lovers or youngsters who need something new!

Night Mare Book Review

About the Book

A class assignment—to blog—gets Ellie’s horse Dream noticed. Ellie and her family believed that the Pinto was a “runaway” horse without a home. But now the owners want him back. How will Ellie deal with losing her beloved backyard horse? (Goodreads)

My Review

This book is great! I haven't read the rest of the series and this is a new author to me. I have read many other young adult horse books and this one I really liked. There were a lot of details that young folks will like and also one of the characters uses sign language so they add pictures so the reader can see how it works! There is also a list of words in the back on horse terms with definitions.
This story is great with bringing trusting in God through it's pages. Using Bible references, Ellie realizes that having her horse taken away is something that she needs to trust God with.

Great book and I highly recommend!
