A Lady's Honor Book Review

About the Book

Society is concerned about her honor, but Elizabeth must realize her worth doesn't lie in her inheritance.

In order to avoid a forced marriage to a dangerous man, Elizabeth Trelawney flees London. An unexpected stranger arrives to help her, and as they elude her pursuers across Cornwall in the night, Elizabeth realizes her rescuer, Rouan Curnow, is familiar.

Their differences in social status kept Rouan from pursuing a courtship with the lady his heart wouldn't let him forget. Now because of dangerous smugglers and local murders, the two are plunged into a reckless alliance that rattles Rouan's fledgling faith in God.

The closer they get to Bastian Point-Elizabeth's true home-the more she realizes it is the only place she longs to be. Even the sight of its solid structure perched on the cliffs makes her feel safe. Elizabeth is the most likely to inherit Bastian Point if Grandfather never learns she spent the night, however innocently, with a near stranger.

As spring warms into summer, Elizabeth finds herself torn between wanting to be the perfect grandchild and her growing love for a man of whom no one will approve as a match for her, a man she knows she shouldn't entirely trust. Unsure whether she is being foolish or following the right path, she sets out with Rouan on a quest to find the true culprit behind the local violence.

Their quest leads them to danger, and she must choose whether to follow the man she loves or cling to the safety of her family home. (Goodreads)

My Review

To be honest this was a very disappointing read. The first few chapters were intriguing but as the story continued on it was difficult for me to really get into the story. Elizabeth (the main character) was not my favorite, her attitude and how the characters interacted I did not enjoy. I wish I could say otherwise but this is my honest opinion. I had high hopes and the first part of the book is great with mystery but the story line was not as well developed as I would have liked.
I rate three stars.

About the Book

In this collection of brand-new historical novellas from four outstanding storytellers, four young women find their lives altered after each receives a letter that sets her on a new path toward a changed life--and perhaps lifelong love. From a Hudson River steamboat to a lush drawing room, from a carousel carver's workshop to a remote and controversial hospital, readers will love being swept into the lives of four young women who are making their way in the world and finding love where they least expect it. (Goodreads)

My Review

What a collection of stories and authors! I love the cover of this book. My favorite novella is by Amanda Cabot about a carousel carver and young woman of society that discovers having a big name is not everything. I liked the unique aspect with carving the carousel and painting. While all novellas are usually predictable, the other stories didn't stand out to me. Jane Kirkpatrick is always a good story teller and even in her short story there were details that I enjoyed.Laurie and Ann are great authors there stories in this collection just didn't intrigue me as much.
Overall this is a four novella book, don't expect a lot of depth but do expect unique situations and characters.

 About the Book
Honore Bainbridge has been courted by two men, one of whom turned out to be a traitor, the other a murderer. Banished to her family's country estate, where she will hopefully stay out of trouble, she finally meets the man she is sure is exactly right for her: Lord Ashmoor. Tall, dark, and handsome--what more could a girl ask for?

But he too is under suspicion because of his American upbringing and accusations that he has helped French prisoners escape from Dartmoor Prison. If he's to keep out of a British prison himself and secure his place in British society, Lord Ashmoor needs a wife beyond reproach--something the vexingly beautiful Honore certainly is not. Though they find themselves drawn to each other, family obligations may conspire to keep them apart forever.

For the sake of her heart, Honore determines to prove Ashmoor's innocence--even if doing so risks her own life.

 My Review
I have not read the first two books in The Daughters of Bainbridge House Series, but I read that they could be read alone. This I discovered to be true, as I could follow the story line and was not confused about the characters.
I enjoy the "Downton Abbey" type feeling that this book portrays, as this time period is extremely popular it has hit the fiction book stands by storm. I have read many books during this time period and this one was very difficult for me to get into and enjoy. The story line was so slow for me and the main character irritated me to no end. I'm sure those who have read the first books will enjoy this book as it is the same setting, but unfortunately I just did not enjoy this read.
