A Heart Adrift Review & Giveaway!!

 About the Book

It is 1755, and the threat of war with France looms over colonial York, Virginia. Chocolatier Esmee Shaw is fighting her own battle of the heart. Having reached her twenty-eighth birthday, she is reconciled to life alone after a decade-old failed love affair from which she's never quite recovered. But she longs to find something worthwhile to do with her life.

Captain Henri Lennox has returned to port after a lengthy absence, intent on completing the lighthouse in the dangerous Chesapeake Bay, a dream he once shared with
Esmee. But when the colonial government asks him to lead a secret naval expedition against the French, his future is plunged into uncertainty.

Will a war and a cache of regrets keep them apart, or can their shared vision and dedication to the colonial cause heal the wounds of the past? Bestselling and award-winning author Laura Frantz whisks you away to a time fraught with peril--on the sea and in the heart--in this redemptive, romantic story. (Goodreads)

 My Thoughts

Every single story that Laura Frantz pens is wonderful. There simply is no limit to her talent and the characters that she creates. Every year I eagerly await her next novel. When I receive the book in the mail I do a happy dance. Then I have to decide if I should wait to read it (because once I start, it is over for another year) or if I should delve in and enjoy. But then I decide to just read it because life is too short not to read Laura Frantz!

All that to say this story is lovely. I thought both characters were very unique and also their background. The two main people Esmée and Henri have known each other a long time and have a past history. The way this book develops I thought was very interesting and a bit out of the box for these historical romance novels. This book had a lot more historical context and isn't a terribly fast read but still enjoyable. There are some really difficult things brought up in the story line that took me by surprise but made it all the better. I also was pleasantly surprised and delighted to discover there is a lighthouse in this book that plays a big role.

I loved the book and I love everything that Frantz has written.

Five Stars!

"I received this book from Revell for free. All opinions are my own and I was not required to write a positive review."
