My Review

I have been looking forward to reading this book for awhile! If you haven't read the first two books I do recommend reading them first though they each have their own story. The same characters are present in all of the books and it makes more sense when reading them in order. While this wasn't my favorite book out of the three it was still so very good! I really liked Jake's character because it sheds some light into people living with PTSD. I can't imagine this and I think something it's downplayed but oh how it effects people's lives! The horses are fun to read about and Lyndie is a likable character. The story revolves around these two who have known each other since childhood but have been disconnected for years. I liked the romance part because of their past friendship, friendship always makes things work out better and I enjoy reading such story lines.

This is a good story with great characters and I really couldn't put it down.

My Review

I have read the previous two books in this series and I still think that the first is the best. This book has a good twist and goes more into Drew and Madeline's relationship. Deering reminds me a bit of Anne Perry's writing but these books are unique in their own way. The mystery is surrounding Fleur and acting along with some candy that's been poisoned. The mystery part did not hold my attention as much as I had hoped. I was more interested in the relationship part in this book but thought the opposite while reading the second book. I still enjoy these characters but I'm ready for something new from Deering.

Four stars.

I highly recommend reading the first two books before picking this one up.

A Change of Fortune Book Review

A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano is set in New York 1880 and is about a young woman by the name of Eliza. At the start of the book you find her entertaining children as their governess and soon find out she is hiding her identity. Someone has stolen her money and title and she is going to make things right once again. In steps Mr. Hamilton Beckett who is quite amused with Eliza's attitude and keeps running into her at the oddest of times. While Eliza is pretending to be someone else, she also has turned her back on God. During the course of the story, which is rather jam packed full, God shows her that He had a plan the entire time. 

I love the cover of this book, it is one of my favorites for the year. This is Jen Turano's first novel and for being a first novel it was a delightful read. I enjoyed the story line and the characters and the setting. I can't wait to read more from this author because I know the writing will get better with each book. The only thing that I didn't like that I noticed while reading was the immense amount of dialogue in certain parts of the story. I understand that the reader needs to know what is going on but this conversation was pages long. It made things hard to follow at times because the conversation was so random and the story covers a lot of ground in a short amount of time. This was a fast book, meaning one minute you are here and the next you are jumping over here.The author does write with a great deal of humor and made me smile on more than one occasion.

In any case I still enjoyed this book and will be looking for more from Jen! This is the first to four books in a series called the Ladies of Distinction. She has written Gentleman of Her Dreams which you can only purchase the eBook edition.
