The Memory Book Movie Review and Giveaway

The Memory Book Synopsis

The Memory Book is a Hallmark Movies & Mysteries film written by Duane Poole and directed by Paul A. Kaufman. In this film, budding photographer Chloe stumbles upon an old photo album from the 1970s while browsing through a flea market one day. Having come from a broken family full of broken romances and relationships, she is intrigued by the couple in the album that seem to have had a perfect relationship. Inspired by the idea of a real-life example of true love, she sets out to find this couple and talk to them. Excited about the prospect of a mystery to solve, Chloe continues on her quest, even meeting a companion by the name of Gabe.

Gabe Sinclair is an unusual yet handsome bartender who is instantly attracted to Chloe. With her needing help on her “mystery”, he instantly signs up to help her on her journey, with the hopes of also forming a relationship. While at first she keeps her distance and does her best to avoid forming any kind of a relationship with Gabe, Chloe eventually finds herself inexplicably taken with this man. Refusing to get too close to him, but also unable to stay too far away, will Chloe ever be able to accept the idea of love and give into happiness?

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this movie. I don't pay for TV so I never get to watch the Hallmark Channel. So I was super excited that this movie was available via DVD! Also, if you haven't heard of FishFlix, you should check out their website they have a ton of great movies and TV shows.  I love old stories and the Memory Book was so fun. I really liked Chloe's character and how she didn't give up on finding out who the Memory Book belonged to. I liked the deeper story of her learning to let people in her life. I think the acting was great and the whole thing was put together nicely. If you enjoy clean yet solid movies with a touch of romance, this is the movie for you! Highly recommend!!

Noble Movie Review and DVD Giveaway!

Synopsis of Noble

At the tender age of ten, Christina Noble’s mother passed away and she and her brothers and sisters were moved around to various institutions where they was exposed to all kinds of mistreatment and told that the others had passed away.  When Noble was finally released from the orphanage, she ended up homeless where she even slept in a hole she had dug in a park.

When she was 18, Christina Noble escaped to England to live with her brother.  It was there that she and her husband met and married – they had three children, Androula, Helenita and Nicolas.  During this period in her life, in the early seventies, she had a dream about Vietnam.

She doesn’t’ know why she dreamed about Vietnam, perhaps because it has been so prominent in the news because of the Vietnam war, but she dreamt of poor children running down a road naked, escaping from napalm bombing.   They were running on cracked ground and running toward Christina.  One child in the dream begged her for help.

It wasn’t until 20 years later, in 1989 that Christina actually arrived in Vietnam specifically to help children in need.

Overcoming overwhelming odds, Christina has founded a foundation that is located in Ho Chi Mihn City – from there many programs have been developed that touch the lives of countless living in poverty both in Vietnam and throughout Mongolia.

 My Thoughts

First of all I would like to give a shout out to Jake from FishFlix who introduced me to this movie to begin with. This is a new-to-me website that has all the great Christian films!!

Noble is not a movie I knew anything about so I was curious to see where it led. The movie is rated PG-13 for a reason, so be cautious if watching with children. There are many difficult scenes in Noble especially during Christina's childhood and young adult years. It shows interesting Irish history and also Vietnam history which is not something many people know about today. Also, for those that want Christian films, Christina is Catholic because of how she grew up and was raised. She does pray and seems to trust in God as she tells Him to show her what to do. For me, this was a fairly long slow movie. I love a good biography but to be honest, I think this story would capture my attention more so in book form. I feel like there were so many things behind the movie scenes that I missed, all of the little details, that I felt like I was missing something. The acting is superb, the overall story is incredible and makes me consider things I hadn't thought about or realized. It takes what seemed a hopeless life to one that changed thousands of lives.

I encourage you to watch the trailer and read up on this movie before viewing especially if watching with a family. There is a rape scene but the viewer doesn't see details as that part is more implied. There are also scenes with extreme poverty and drunkenness that leads to violence.

Thanks to FishFlix for offering me a free copy of this movie in exchange for an honest review.

Review

This is a tough movie to watch but it's really good to know what goes on in this world. I have heard both things from this movie and it's definitely not something I would let me kids watch. There is blood and danger and it's scary but it's a true story. I think we need to know these things. I couldn't recommend for everyone because it will effect everyone differently and if people aren't ready to watch it then that is fine. I so appreciate our troops and military and all they do for us. We are blessed to have people like this fighting for us.

When Calls the Heart Season 2 Info and Season One DVD Giveaway

About the series:
The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal mining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

I had the opportunity to watch the premier of season two and let me tell you it's going to be a crazy season! The romance is intriguing as ever and of course there is the coal mine issue, new characters, and new places, all packed into the premier! I don't want to give anything away but it's going to be everything we have hoped.

 My Thoughts

This movie was not at all like I expected but I still enjoyed it! The overall theme is the Ten Commandments but I think the film goes into a lot of issues with the church and Christians. They are accused of being hypocrites and the use of the money in the church is also in the film. Thirty thousand dollars goes missing out of the safe at the church and they end up hiring a private investigator to figure out what happened. Bill is against religion of any sort and doesn't trust anyone. It's really a journey for all the characters and what they see as being honest having stole the money or not. The thief is rather surprising and the overall storyline is well written and acting done well. One thing I liked is when the pastor is talking and explaining faith to Bill he says, "We show our love to God by following His commands," For some reason that really sunk in and I like how it's worded. It's not we do it because we feel like we have to but because we want to. I agree with the values of the film and there is a lot of Biblical references that added to the movie in a positive way.
The only thing that drove me insane was the music in the movie. It was just really rather awful and over dramatic. I'm also unsettled about the ending because I felt like Julie, who is abused by her husband (it doesn't show the violence) feels at fault for being beaten. I almost felt like since she was a Christian it meant she needed to just live with him and get over it because "she made a bad choice." In the end they try to make it better but I do wish they would have written the ending a little different in that aspect.

I enjoyed this movie and I think it had a good message and I was pretty impressed with the acting.

Four stars.

VeggieTales Noah's Ark Review and DVD Giveaway!!

My Review

I've watched VeggieTales since I was young and it's good to know that positive movies are still being made for kids. While obviously there are some things that aren't Biblically accurate (I don't think there was a swimming pool for the animals on the Ark), these shows create conversation about the Bible. This movie is fun and actually even from adult perspective, it gave me a new look at this story in the Bible. Shem is the leading character in the movie and he is really confused why his dad is building an ark. He just got his life started, want's to raise a family, etc. Can you imagine being in their shoes?! It would seem crazy but they still trusted God. Shem's story takes a bit longer and I think it added to the story line. There are silly things that kids will giggle at and of course Silly Songs With Larry! At the end of the movie they read a Bible verse to bring home the entire point of the film. I like that they do this because that is what it is all about.
Very good movie kids will enjoy!! I can't wait to share with my little nephews!

Reese Witherspoon and the Good Lie DVD Giveaway

I love Reese Witherspoon but more than that I like good quality movies! I had no idea what this movie was about but I thought I would give it a try. Wow!! The Good Lie takes you from Africa to the U.S. in a way I never knew about. Of course I have heard of the civil war in Sudan but this movie makes it more personal, as many of the main actors are actually survivors and refugees from Sudan.
Witherspoon's character in the movie I think is very to relate with and I was blown away by this story based on fact.
This is one of the better movies I have seen for awhile but it is rated PG-13 for a reason. There is some language, drug use, drinking, and survival while the Lost Boys walk through Africa. There are some things you really won't want to see during the first part of the movie because it's not comfortable, it's not what we are used to in the comfort of our own homes. They are hungry they are running from soldiers, and they see death. These kids survive crazy awful circumstances in Africa and the film doesn't shy away from what happened.

I loved this movie and I am so excited to get the word out!

Noah Movie Review and DVD/BluRay Combo Giveaway!!

via

 Noah the Movie

I did not see Noah in the theater so I just recently was able to watch the movie. I know there has been a lot of different opinions on the movie versus what is stated in the Bible. Noah's story is really something when you read about it but putting it into a movie made me think of a few things.
First of all the movie is not at all like what is written in the Bible. There are a few similarities and overall "Noah builds an ark" but past that Hollywood changed the story. But the good things that I got from watching this movie is thinking of what really happened in a different point of view. One of the lead characters in the movie is Shem's wife and while she is hardly mentioned in the Bible what would it have been like from her perspective?
Honestly this movie really does make you think about what it really could have been like, how evil the world was, and how awful would it be to know that everyone is dying except you? We hear about this story in Sunday School but thinking farther into the story line I think is rare. We picture colorful cut outs that our teacher's showed us or we read the words but don't grasp what really happened.

This movie made me think and I do believe that makes it a worthwhile movie.

That being said this film is not really family friendly for those with younger children. I advise parents to preview before sharing with your children. There are some graphic times with battles and blood, and people dying.

Grace Hill Media is kind enough to offer one of my readers a free combo pack of the Noah DVD/BluRay Movie.

Ragamuffin DVD Review and Giveaway!

 My Review

I had heard Rich Mullins before and I think most people have have heard his songs without realizing it. This movie is not what I was expecting but it is really good. It takes you into the life of Rich and how he grew up all the way up until his death. It's surprising to see into a person's life and I think we can learn a lot from hearing others stories. The movie did get a little long for me but it's an entire life of one person and there is a lot to be told. I loved the music and the actors did a great job.
There is some language that I wasn't expecting and a few drunken scenes.

I really enjoyed this movie and I highly recommend!

About the Film:
RAGAMUFFIN is based on the life of Rich Mullins, a musical prodigy who rose to Christian music fame and fortune only to walk away and live on a Navajo reservation. An artistic genius, raised on a tree farm in Indiana by a callous father, Rich wrestled all of his life with the brokenness and crippling insecurity born of his childhood. A lover of Jesus and a rebel in the church, Rich refused to let his struggles with his own darkness tear him away from a God he was determined to love. As he struggled with success in Nashville and depression in Wichita, Rich desired most of all to live a life of honest and reckless faith amidst a culture of religion and conformity.

About Rich Mullins:
Singer and songwriter Richard Wayne “Rich” Mullins was best known for his worship song “Awesome God” which has been embraced as modern classics by many Christians. His music has been covered by many artists, including Caedmon’s Call, Amy Grant, Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, Third Day, John Tesh, and Hillsong United. Mullins’ musical career formally began with Zion Ministries in the late 1970s, where he wrote music and performed with a band called Zion.  Mullins first solo hit, “Awesome God,” appeared on his third album and brought his music to a wider audience. Rich Mullins was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) on April 29, 2014.

•Film Testimonials:
“Rich was a gifted songwriter with an amazing heart for people. This film reminded me that what really made Rich special was how undistracted he was with the things of this world. His was a heart yearning for God.” - Michael W. Smith Singer, Songwriter

“This film captures the life of one of the most important people in the history of modern evangelicalism, a ragamuffin that our children and our grandchildren need to know about.” - Shane Claiborne Author, Activist
