My Thoughts

While this is a short and simple book it really has some terrific ideas! I had just been talking with my husband about the different love languages. We hadn't talked about it in a long time and we both had to re think what we thought ours were. Then I discovered this book and it was perfect timing. It is an easy flip through and find your "love language" section: words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch. Each section then gives ideas on how to act it out. Act of service has examples of doing some chores and breakfast in bed. Quality time has ideas of a movie night or a mystery date. Something as simple as an evening stroll. The best part about this little book is that it is all simple things, but things we often forget about or take for granted. I love how it reminds you to do the things that you know your spouse would love. It is the perfect to flip through quickly as a reminder.

I love this book and I wish I had discovered it sooner!

Five Stars.

My Review

I had read this book years ago before I was married as it was the one book everyone told me to read. At the time I don't think I got as much out of it because I wasn't married. Reading it a second time was more thought provoking and we discussed our love languages and why we do the things we do. Why I love it when he takes out the trash and why he loves it when I hug him in the mornings. It's interesting because I do think people all have their own "love language" but it's really more about listening to your spouse and hearing what he/she is saying.

I recommend to those who haven't read it or need a refresher!

About the Book

We know we should do it. We talk about it and acknowledge the benefits; yet most couples find praying together is somewhat awkward, intimidating, or something we lack the time for. It's time to experience a breath of fresh air... in prayer.

52 Uncommon Dates ignites a prayerful and playful connection in a way that feels natural for couples to schedule and relate to real life. Fun, creative, and spiritually engaging, this powerful resource will revive the relational, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of your relationship, one date at a time. (Goodreads)

My Review

Ever since I got married three years ago I have heard many people tell me to "keep dating". All of the marriage studies and books also promote the idea of a couple to keep dating. That being said, I think many of these push the idea mainly for couples with kids. It's more difficult for them to go on "date nights". As a couple without kids and only one dog, a lot of the ideas behind date nights don't really relate to us.
Many of the dates listed in this book are our daily lives on the weekend. We go on bike rides, we cook, we watch movies, we hike, and we play on the playground. Obviously this is not always the case but for couples that don't get to do these things on a daily basis this book is perfect.
I would give this book to any newlywed or any couple who has small children. Some of my favorite date ideas are: Lego date, park bench date (sitting and reading the Bible in the park), sunrise date, and the cemetery date. This book really does have some great simple ideas. None of the things have to cost that much money. Many of the dates are not for small town/country folk. Going to the zoo or the arcade etc. these aren't always things they can do when the nearest anything is five hours away. There is enough variety throughout the book that the couple can get creative on the matter though if in this situation.
The main part of this particular date book that I like is before and after each date the couple prays, and then they talk about what they did and how it honors God or how they can live out their faith. This also gives verses and other resources to read to go along with each date.

This is a great book I really loved it.

I recommend to any couple.

A Perfect Pet for Peyton Book Review

About the Book
This wonderfully imaginative children's hardcover book by bestselling authors Gary Chapman and Rick Osborne, featuring four-color illustrations (with hidden details!) by Wilson Williams, Jr., will help children learn the importance of love. Based on Gary's highly successful The 5 Love Languages®, A Perfect Pet for Peyton tells an entertaining and playful story of five children who each, with the help of Mr. Chapman and the unique pets at his special emporium, discover their own personal love language. Children and parents alike will experience firsthand the power of the love languages as they cuddle up and spend precious time together reading this book over and over again.

The cast of child characters in this whimsical story include:

Peyton, one of the birthday celebrants, loves to help others, and appreciates it when others do little things for him.
Penny, Peyton's twin sister, who receives love best when others spend quality time with her.

Jayla, one of Penny's close friends, is always saying nice things about people. Her love language is words of affirmation.

Kevin, one of Peyton's close friends, enjoys giving things to pe
ople.

Sofia loves to pet the animals, and to show her love for others with special hugs. (Goodreads)

 My Review

I love children's books and I enjoy watching my nephews learning how to read. This book was much better than I had anticipated. The pictures are great as is the main story line. My seven year old nephew would love this book mainly because on each page it has the reader try to find something in the picture. Think I Spy only interwoven with the story line. Also at the end of the book is when all the children in the book figure out what Love Language they have. I am married and have read Gary's 5 Love Languages. I had no idea how he would fit this into a children's book but it was actually well done. Each person is unique and in the book each child got a pet that fit with their love language. Also, at the very back of the book is a section to find your own love language.
This is one of the best kids books that I have read in a while, I highly recommend!!

My Review
Gary Chapman is a pretty well known author with his book the Five Love Languages. I had read the Love Languages before I married and agreed with his advice, while most of it was all things I had heard before. Anyway, I was curious to see what this book was all about. I discovered that this was another printing of the same book he wrote years ago. I liked how the book was set up. Each topic had a different subject about marriage and at the end a question/make it personal section. There were several things that I highlighted that I thought were good now that I have been married for a couple of years. The first chapter is good because it talks about the triangle God at the top and husband and wife on the two bottom points. The closer they both are to Christ, the closer they are to each other. I am a visual person so I like this picture of what marriage should be all about. A point that hit home with me was about the negative emotions or words used. While they might not be about each other, no one wants to live with a negative person. I really did enjoy this book and I like better than the Five Love Languages.
I highly recommend this book to any married couple who seeks to to honor God with their marriage.

A Marriage Carol Book Review

On Christmas Eve twenty years earlier, Marlee and Jacob were married in a snowstorm.   This Christmas Eve, they are ready to quit, divorce is imminent. Their relationship is as icy as the road they're traveling and as blocked with troubles as the piling snow. They take a shortcut to get to the lawyer's office, on a slippery, no-fault path. She thinks they need to stay on the main road. He disagrees. They fight. Story of their lives and they slam into a bank of snow , spinning, drifting, falling, out of control. Just like their lives. Reluctantly, freezing cold, hungry, scared, she trudges up the hill. Jacob is nowhere to be found. Her ears frozen, fingers and hands red, she comes to a house on the hillside, built like a Bed and Breakfast, a green wreath on the red door and the door-knocker is in the shape of a wedding ring.

The red door opens and the first thing she notices is the fire in the room, blazing hot, a warm, inviting, friendly place and the voice of an old man welcomes her in. There are three golden pots on the hearth, shining, glimmering things. The old man claims that they are used to restore marriages. She laughs-and begins a journey through her past, present, and future that will test how she views her lifelong love. There are two futures available. Which will she choose?(Goodreads)

I am a fan of Gary Chapman and hadn't heard of Chris Fabry until this book. The cover is inviting and the back of the cover made me want to read this book. I was surprised at how the story played out and how short of a story it is. I loved how the authors explained the marriage and it's complications, it was very easy to relate with. The setting made it a fun book with the snow and created a Christmas Carol by Dickens in marriage form.

Not just a book for the holidays, this book has great meaning and is a good short read.

I highly recommend for married folks!
