Ever Faithful Review

About the Book

Vibrant historic Yellowstone National Park comes to life in this romantic mystery about a man hiding the truth, braving the west to become something more--and the woman who must confront his deception.

A man who can't read will never amount to anything--or so Nate Webber believes. But he takes a chance to help his family by signing up for the new Civilian Conservation Corps, skirting the truth about certain "requirements." Nate exchanges the harsh Brooklyn streets for the wilds of Yellowstone National Park, curious if the Eden-like wonderland can transform him as well.
Elsie Brookes was proud to grow up as a ranger's daughter, but she longs for a future of her own. After four years serving as a maid in the park's hotels, she still hasn't saved enough money for her college tuition. A second job, teaching a crowd of rowdy men in the CCC camp, might be the answer, but when Elsie discovers Nate's secret, it puts his job as camp foreman in jeopardy. Tutoring leads to friendship and romance, until a string of suspicious fires casts a dark shadow over their relationship. Can they find answers before all of their dreams go up in smoke? (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

I have enjoyed reading this national park series. This one is set in the lovely setting of Yellowstone. I found the history part of this book fascinating. I loved learning about what went on in Yellowstone in the 1930s. The characters were pretty fun, the romance was not my favorite but it was still a nice story.  The background stories are what held this book together. If you are a fan of national parks I highly recommend this series.

Four stars.

Whose Waves These Are~A New Treasure

 42075068

 About the Book

In the wake of WWII, a grieving fisherman submits a poem to a local newspaper asking readers to send rocks in honor of loved ones to create something life-giving but the building halts when tragedy strikes. Decades later, Annie returns to the coastal Maine town where stone ruins spark her curiosity and her search for answers faces a battle against time. (Goodreads)
My Thoughts

This story is such a delight! I have been following Amanda for a few years now, so when I heard about her debut novel coming out I was excited! I knew this story would be good but truly it is a treasure. I loved the dual timeline, I thought it was well written and both stories engaging. There are so many layers with each character and also the themes in the book. The setting is perfect and it made me want to visit Maine. There is an underlying mystery that I thought was well written and it really tied everything together. The romance was perfect and sweet all while being realistic. Yes, this book was sweet but it also held depth that I wasn't expecting. If you are needing a fresh read that will carry you away to Maine this is the book for you!
Highly recommend.

Five Stars.

Currently April....

April has been all about spring and green for me. Also, our beautiful crab apple tree bloomed and I have spent a lot of time under it staring up in awe.
April zoomed on by and now as we go into May I am realizing how fast spring will be over and how much I want to do! We have switched from inside projects to all of the outdoor projects we planned all winter. We have lived in our house for not quite a year so we are still discovering and dreaming. The yard and landscape needs a lot of work but my goodness you could spend all the money in the world on such things. So we have been taking it bit by bit, adding flowers, adding a tree, adding mulch, etc. We have our garden area all set up and I will be sanding and painting our picnic table here soon.
While it was a spring month in my mind we did have a blizzard type storm that kept me home one day. I decided to paint one of our bedrooms changing it from a dull purple to a bright white.
We also made a short trip to the mountains to see some family and enjoyed getting out of town for a weekend. A dear friend of mine came to visit this month, we rarely see each other so it was a fun treat. We went plant shopping and now I am itching to plant all the things.
Aside from those things life just keeps pushing forward. We started a new Bible study at church and are really excited to learn more.
I have been slacking from keeping up with my to-read pile so I think this next month I will try to read a bit more.
April has been a fun month and I am excited for the next month of spring as well before the summer heat takes over.

Joyful Surrender Review

About the Book

In our age of instant gratification and if-it-feels-good-do-it attitudes, self-discipline is hardly a popular notion. Yet it may be one of the most important lost virtues of our time. In Joyful Surrender, former missionary and beloved author Elisabeth Elliot offers her understanding of discipline and its value for people of all times. She shows readers how to

- discipline the mind, body, possessions, time, and feelings
- overcome anxiety
- change poor habits and attitudes
- trust God in times of trial and hardship
- let Christ have control in all areas of life

Elliot masterfully and gently takes readers through Scripture, personal stories, and incisive observations of the world around her to help them discover the understanding that our fulfillment as human beings depends on our answer to God's call to obedience. (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

I have been a long time fan of Elisabeth Elliot. This is a reprint of one of her books but I had not read it yet. I so enjoy reading her wisdom. Her point of view made her writing unique and to the point. She never beats around the bush even with difficult topics. This book might make you feel uncomfortable because of the truth that is in it. I really liked the section about trusting God at all times. Such a great reminder on anxiety and worry. Also the chapters about possessions stood out to me.
I really enjoyed this book. Five stars.

 My Thoughts

I have really enjoyed Sarah E. Ladd's books since the very beginning. She adds a touch of mystery and tension in most of her books and this story was no exception. I loved the setting and my goodness the cover of this book is beautiful. Now I will say Cordelia's predicament was written in a way that honestly made her seem to lack a bit of common sense. As she moves back within miles of her family from the past it would seem likely that they might find out she is near. I thought parts of this side of the story were a bit far fetched but none the less I enjoyed this book. I really liked Jac as a character and the children are great assets to this story. For a light historical romance this was a nice fast read.

A Love Letter Life Review

About the Book

More than 2.3 million people watched as Jeremy and Audrey Roloff shared their vows and committed their lives to each other. Now for the first time, the former co-stars of TLC's hit show Little People, Big World share their imperfect, resilient, and inspiring love story.
As Jeremy and Audrey write, if you can fall into love, you can fall out. True love is something you choose to live out each day through your actions, decisions, and sacrifices. To find andstill seek, now that is love. From the moment you meet your potential spouse, you can be intentional about shaping a beautiful love story, uniquely written for who God created you both to be. Whether you're single and searching, in a serious dating relationship, or desiring to love your spouse better, Jeremy and Audrey equip you to pursue an intentional, creative, and faithful love story by sharing theirs.

The journey to their wedding day was the culmination of a bumpy and complicated dating relationship. From health problems, to emotional walls, to being separated by one thousand miles, the couple faced daunting obstacles. But their unique approach to dating empowered them to write an uncommon love story and prepared them for married life. Because as beautiful as their wedding was, the Roloffs made a point to prepare more for their marriage than their wedding day.

Told through both Jeremy's and Audrey's voices, A Love Letter Life tells a passionate and persevering story of relatable struggles, hard-learned lessons, practical tips, and devout commitment. In these pages, they encourage you to stop settling for convenient relationships, offer perspective on male and female differences in dating, tackle tough topics like purity, give their nine rules for fighting well, suggest fun ideas for connection in a world of technology, and provide fresh advice on how to intentionally pursue a love story that never ends.

My Thoughts

I did not know much about Jeremy and Audrey before reading this book. It was a recommendation from a friend and it is actually a pretty well written book. I enjoyed the love story since they group up together. I married my high school sweetheart so it is fun to relate a little. I thought it was written in a fun way, from both perspectives. It was not boring at all and there are some fun pictures of them as well. They included some great lists that relate to dating and marriage. This would be a good book for a teen girl.

Read an Exclusive Excerpt from Convergence:

She straightens, squares her shoulders, and takes a deep breath as she climbs aboard the plane. There are no seats, the other divers are piled close to one another on the floor. Mike points to an open space near him. She lowers herself, sits, pulls her knees to her chest, and then looks out the oval window next to her.
That’s when she sees him.
Her breath catches. She leans in, cups her hands on the glass to cut the glare, and peers out.
It can’t be. . . . Mouth dry, she tries to swallow. She looks away.
Her heart batters her chest and her pulse roars in her ears, nearly drowning out the clamor of the plane’s propeller. It isn’t him. You’re imagining things, she tells herself. She inhales then exhales. She takes another look then stares at the man near the hangar. He pulls something from his shirt pocket, sticks it in his mouth. A cigarette? She watches as he lights it. It isn’t him. He doesn’t smoke. Anyway, it’s impossible. She knows where he is, and it isn’t here.
He’s seen her staring at him through the window of the plane. He takes a drag, flicks ash to the ground, and smiles. But his eyes behind the sunglasses are cold. Hard.
She steadies herself as the plane shoots down the runway then lifts. As memories flash, perspiration trickles down her back. She inhales again, deeper this time. It wasn’t him. Let it go, she admonishes, then shakes her head.
Fear will not win. Not this time. Not ever again.
Within what feels to her like mere moments, the group of professional skydivers have all jumped, and she stands, back pressed against Mike, hooked to his harness. They brace themselves against the pummeling force of wind as they wait near the gaping opening in the side of the plane. She pulls goggles from the top of her head down over her eyes.
There’s no room in her mind now for thoughts of the man on the ground, or of the man who haunts her memories. There’s no room for thoughts of any kind. Terror, as she well knows, is all-consuming. Her breaths are shallow, her pulse races.
“Step to the edge,” Mike yells. When she doesn’t move, he yells again, this time his breath hot against her ear. She hesitates then steps forward, him stepping in sync with her. There’s nothing to see but the vast expanse.
“Go!” Mike shouts.
Heart hammering her rib cage, she leans forward, eyes squeezed shut, and falls more than jumps into nothingness, arms stretched wide. She anticipates the sensation of falling—stomach lifting to throat—but it isn’t evident as she’d expected. Nor is the velocity at which she knows they’re falling. She dares to open her eyes, only aware of the force of air pushing her cheeks back to her ears, which makes her laugh.
The free fall is like nothing she’s experienced. She laughs again, the sound carried heavenward on the drafts, she imagines. Too soon she’s jerked, hard, the harness cutting into her thighs, and pulled upward with what seems like exceeding force. She hadn’t expected the force.
But then they’re floating. Soaring. “Oh,” she whispers. She wants to take it all in, remember every exhilarating moment. These currents she could ride forever. Tension is replaced by peace, pervasive peace.
Quietude. Silence. Wonder.
“That was a hard pull.” Mike’s shouted words behind her threaten to break the spell, but she’s enchanted and pays little attention. She assumes the pull—the parachute opening and catching air—was harder than usual but fine. They’re fine. She doesn’t understand. Doesn’t know what’s to come. How could she?
As they float, her eyes are trained on the ground below. The earth is a patchwork of tones. She sees the river, a thread, stitched across the quilt of colors. She searches for familiar landmarks as her sense of confidence soars. She’s done it. Faced fear, terror even, and—
Suddenly they’re plummeting.
Tumbling.
Head first. Arms and legs akimbo.
Land and sky spin as they interchange. Her lungs deflate. Pressure. The currents, tumultuous, pull her under and then spit her out. She can’t breathe. Why can’t she breathe? She gasps. She’s drowning. Help! Someone, help! But no. . . There’s no water. Instead, she’s above, where there’s nothing. Just. . .
Nothing.
Nothing to reach for. Nothing to grab. Nothing to save her.
A scream sounds in her mind. Rings in her ears. Scathes her throat.
Her scream?
Awareness hits. She’s going to die. It’s her only thought. There are no thoughts of those she loves. Those who love her. Memories don’t flash. No, just the one thought. The only thought she has time for.
She is going to die.
Then. . .
Everything goes black.

My Thoughts

I haven't read a book by Ginny Yttrup in a long time so I jumped the opportunity to read her latest. This book was so good! I made the mistake of reading it at night when my husband was out of town. I fell asleep eventually......
The suspense was top notch and I really enjoyed the characters. The story has a lot of twists and you possibly you might figure out who the bad guy is. But I think there were some other surprises in the last part of the book that added a lot to this novel. There is a lot of jumping around to different story lines but I thought it was really well done and I wasn't confused by it.
I now need to read more from Yttrup because all of her books that I have read have been amazing.
Highly recommend!

Five Stars.

March Life Update

Oh March, the month of crazy weather. I am sitting here listening to the rain and it is wonderful to hear. I feel like we have turned the corner into a wonderful season. Spring and autumn are my favorites.
Things have been pretty quiet here on the blog. I have been reading a few books, but this month I have been a bit slow in my reading and reviewing. My job has kept me really busy and my brain has just been on overload the past few weeks. Thus less reading more sleeping. :)

My husband and I went to a historical symposium one weekend and learned a ton! We both love history and it was fun to listen to multiple historians talk on different topics.

We seem to have been surrounded by sickness the past couple of months. I really think that Young Living Thieves has been helpful for us and our wellness. We haven't gotten sick!

Thieves Essential Oil

I have been making plans for our yard a lot this month and started pulling weeds already. Also, check out this adorable gift idea:

Image result for diy potted herb gift

I did read this book that I picked up from the library. It was the best book I read this month but I warn you it was a difficult read due to the topic of sexual abuse.  Ginny L. Yttrup is a fantastic author and I highly recommend her books.

So that pretty much wraps up the past month-ish for me. I feel like it has gone quickly. Hopefully my April post will include flowers blooming!

Thanks for stopping by!
