Bread and Wine Book Review

Bread & Wine: Finding Community and Life Around the Table

Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist is a delightful read that is not just any old recipe book.

Bread and Wine; this book is a collection of essays about family relationships, friendships, and the meals that bring us together. Written by well-loved writer and blogger, Shauna Niequist, this mix of Girl Meets God and the Food Network is a funny, honest, and vulnerable spiritual memoir. Bread and Wine is a celebration of food shared and life around the table, and it reminds us of the joy we find in connection and relationship. It's about the ways that God teaches and nourishes us as we nourish the people around us. It's about hunger, both physical and otherwise, and the connections between the two. Recipes are included for the dishes you can almost taste as you read about them. From Butternut Squash Risotto to Apple Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream and Salted Caramel Sauce, you will be able to recreate the comforting and satisfying meals that come to life in Bread and Wine. (Goodreads)

Shauna has a great sense of humor that is evident throughout her writing. This book does have wonderful recipes but a story to go along with each dish. She is real and honest about her life and what she enjoys. Each chapter does not have a recipe, and there is a lot more writing than I was expecting about Shauna's personal life stories. But the recipes that are included are yummy! The author specifically asks that readers use this book for what it is-to cook with! She wants wine and food splattered all over it so that readers get the full experience.

I highly recommend if one likes the talk of food and wine and funny life stories.

I can't wait to read her previous books!

Check out Shauna's website to learn more about her.
