About the Book

Grace Trey is an eighteen-year-old singer as passionate about her Christian faith as she is her phenomenal, God-given musical talent. Both traits come from her father, one-hit wonder Johnny Tray who found Jesus after losing his chart success two decades ago.

When Grace encounters her own music break of a lifetime, the sudden dive into the "real world" puts her deeper beliefs to the test. Pop superstardom is just within reach but appears to require some spiritual compromise. Will Grace reject her faith, or will she own it?

Grace Unplugged is based on the motion picture of the same name starring AJ Michalka (Super 8) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men).(Goodreads)

My Review

You know what they say, the book is always better than the movie. That is only the case when the movie is based off of the book. Grace Unplugged is a book based off of the movie. Melody Carlson is a talented writer, though this book seems geared more towards young adults. Very predictable in every way, this is a sweet story about Grace who rebels against her parents and runs away to fame and fortune in Hollywood. As a talented singer she blows people away, but her lies and venerability put her on shaky ground and she must decide.
This is an easy read, I like the moral of the story but it lacks depth of character or much of a storyline.
For young adults this is a great book simply because of it's morals and topics of life's decisions.

Look for Grace Unplugged the movie in theaters October 4th!

 About the Book

The movie Grace Unplugged tells the story of Grace Trey, an ideal Christian teenager who is also a phenomenal singer. But when she is pushed into the “real world” at the tender age of eighteen after getting the music break of a lifetime, her faith is put to the test.

Own It! mirrors the film by asking what it means to really “own” your personal faith rather than just automatically following in the footsteps of parents, friends, or other influencers. Best-selling authors Hayley and Michael DiMarco help readers understand what to do when faith meets real world challenges.

Without solid beliefs, poor choices are likely to follow. You must take the time to really know who you are, who you are becoming, and who God made you to be. It's your personal faith . . . own it! (Goodreads)

My Review

While I really like the idea of the message behind this book, owning your faith, it was a little difficult for me to get excited about.
I did enjoy how the authors included their own personal side stories to make the topic of discussion more understandable.
I am in the middle of reading Grace Unplugged so I understand why the two go together.
This book has good points on things that I think a lot of Christians know but refuse to try and do or fully understand. Such as saying your a Christian but making excuses as to why you can act in an a way that pleases the world. One topic mentioned sex before marriage and how he kept making excuses to sleep with his girlfriend-they might get married someday so it's ok. I think as followers in Christ there are many times when the worldly things look so appealing you want to make excuses and twist things around so it seems ok but really it isn't.
I think that was the biggest thing that I took away from this book.

While this is not my favorite book about faith it does have some good points.
