Anytime boring Beamer visits Bash, his crazy farm cousin, weirdness always rules. My Review

I love these books by Burton Cole because they really are fun to read. I can't wait to share this one with all of the littles in my life. This story revolves around April Fools Day and what the kids are going to do for pranks. It reminded me a bit of past April Fools myself and made me giggle. Here is a quote that just cracked me up, "Did he ever shoot anybody? Nope. Break into houses? Bash laughed. Nobody breaks into farmhouses. We own pitchforks." They are talking about a robber who has been going around stealing random things like a jug of syrup. It's fun for kids and adults both and the story continues from painting a goat multiple colors to turning the entire dairy into chocolate milk cows.

Aside from the comedy, there is a great message of Christ and the kids always learn a lesson. I love these books and highly recommend!

Each book in the series will depict Oliver wearing a different costume as he imagines and adventures his way through God's Word with the help of Phineas, the firefly. Based on Scripture from Psalm 1, "The Pirate and the Firefly" aims to address the felt needs of children ages 4 to 8 including courage, confidence, friendship and more with biblical truths about God.

My Review

 This book is such a fun but realistic way to teach kids about Psalm 1: 1-3 and not being bullied by other kids. The book stars with Oliver following his friend's actions while stealing from a candy store. Then from there he is pressured from his peers to "walk the plank" and numerous other things. Throughout the book he is always asking his mom what does God think about different things. In the end he doesn't tell his mom what's going on but talks about things with the firefly who shows him in the Bible what God says. After that point he begins to see the other kids differently and stand up for himself. Instead of knocking over a girls wagon, they help her out. 

I think this is a good book that teaches this Psalm with a new perspective for kids. 

Great for ages 4-8. I think the target is boys but I think it's a great book for girls as well.

My Review

Angie Smith is a great writer and I was so excited to read this book. Wow, she has some great ideas and opinions! First of all she is real and it shows through her writing. 

Here is an example of what she is saying in Chasing God:

"We pick and choose and print them (Bible verses) on our children's bedroom walls, but we can't say we've ever read that particular book of the Bible". 

 She is talking about how we always take things out of context to make it what we want it to say.

 Stop looking for God, Look at Him. (Chasing God)

I really enjoyed the first few chapters of this book but it moved a bit slow near the end. I do agree with what Angie says and I think as a Christian, I get stuck in ruts like she talks about. 

 I recommend this book for those who are willing to learn more about what God wants for and from us.
