About the Book
The First Christmas Night is a beautiful retelling of the birth of Jesus on that joyous night in Bethlehem so long ago. The poem begins with the arrival of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and winds though Christ’s birth, the angels’ appearance to the shepherds, and the visit by the Wise Men. The simple, yet elegant, verses will appeal to little ones and are accompanied by the rich acrylic illustrations of Christine Kornacki. ’Twas the very first Christmas when all through the town

not a creature was stirring—there was not a sound.
The moon shining bright in the heavens so high
gave the look of midday to the Bethlehem sky.
The animals were nestled in warm, cozy places
with looks of contentment on each of their faces.

My Review
This is a colorful picture book about the true meaning behind Christmas-Jesus' birth. The words all rhyme and go together nicely creating a fun flow of words. The only thing that bothers me is the ending, like every other book it portrays the wise men arriving when Jesus is still a baby in the manger, which is not true. It's a nice thought but they could have changed it to him being older, I don't understand why every book changes that part of the story. Anyway the rest of the book is fun to read!

We all agree that the biblical Christmas story is by far our favorite, but aside from that our family enjoys The Night Before Christmas. It's a classic that adds that whimsical children's feeling to the Christmas season. Thanks so much for the wonderful review. This would be a wonderful book for my granddaughter. Thank you for this giveaway!

My favorite book and story is The Christmas Story from the Bible which we read before we open presents. It's a family tradition. As for me and the children it was Twas The Night Before Christmas. The kids could not believe my Mother read that book to me. Oh, how time flies.
